ABOUT BRUCKNER ONCOLOGY

Who are the physicians associated with Bruckner Oncology?

What types of cancers do you treat?
The physicians at Bruckner Oncology treat most of the common types of cancers such as breast, ovarian, colon, gastric and lung cancers. Many of our patients have to come to us for our expertise in treating difficult-to-treat cancers such as pancreatic cancer and cholangiocarcinoma. If you have a question about a specific diagnosis it is best to contact the office for a more detailed response.

What is low dose therapy?
Bruckner Oncology favors a type of treatment known as low dose multi-drug therapy. By using multiple drugs in combination at lower doses we have seen increased effectiveness, reduced toxicities, better reponse rates and improved survival. This type of treatment can sometimes revitalize drugs that patients have failed in the past.

What hospitals and academic centers is Bruckner Oncology affiliated with?

How do I learn more about participating in clinical trial programs?
Bruckner Oncology has a wide variety of clinical trials available. Clinical trial eligibility is best determined by the physician. To find out if you are eligible for participation in different clinical trials please contact the office at (718) 732-4050 to schedule an appointment with one of the physicians in order to review clinical trial options.

What are your office hours and how do I make an appointment?
The office is open Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 6:00pm. Office visits are typically scheduled between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm. To schedule an appointment please call (718) 732-4050. Appointment availability varies, but most patients are able to schedule appointments within one week of calling.

Is Bruckner Oncology affiliated with any hotel or room accommodations if I need to stay in New York for my treatment?
The New Rochelle Residence Inn by Marriott offers reduced rates to patients of Bruckner Oncology. For details on rates please contact the hotel at (914) 636-7888. Please reference the Eastchester Center/Bruckner Oncology. There are also non-profit organizations in New York City that provide free lodging for cancer patients undergoing treatment. Some examples of these are The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge and Miracle House. Links are provided below for your convenience:

GETTING STARTED

What do I need to have available or bring with me prior to my first visit?
Patients should be sure to bring the following information along with them:
  • Up to date insurance card(s)
  • Prescription benefit card(s) if applicable
  • Photo identification
  • List of current medications
  • Medical Records including, but not limited to:
  • Radiology exams (PET and CT scans, X-Rays, etc),
  • Prior treatment records if applicable (chemotherapy, radiation, surgical, hormonal),
  • Pathology report(s),
  • Recent bloodwork (CBC, CMP, tumor markers),
  • List of current physicians

Do I need a referral?
Certain insurance companies require referrals to specialists. Both Dr. Hirschfeld and Dr. Bruckner fall into the specialist category. Refer to the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to determine whether or not referrals are required for your visit.

Is there any financial assistance or planning available if I am not covered by insurance completely or in full?
Bruckner Oncology understands the financial demands of cancer treatment. Patients who experience difficulty with insurance coverage or do not have insurance coverage may contact the office regarding financial planning prior to their first visit.
